Your First Useful Record
- Add your guitar. Give it a name you recognise. Choose a known factory model or use Custom / other when the exact variant is uncertain.
- Record your strings and setup notes. Add the fitted string brand and gauge if known. Put your own measurements in Notes / custom specs, including units and how you measured them. Leave unknown details blank.
- Save, then reopen it. After Add to garage succeeds, reopen the guitar. Check that your strings and notes are there. Sign in and sync any local records before expecting to find them on a different device.
For a dated account record, open the guitar and choose Add entry to log a string change, setup or repair. The save-and-retrieve walkthrough explains each step.
A Real Starting Point: My Strat
This is my Strat. The existing photographs show a six-screw tremolo bridge and a Seymour Duncan-branded bridge pickup. They do not establish the exact guitar variant, fitted string gauge or setup measurements.

The useful next step is to replace an unknown with something you have checked: the set you fit at your next string change, a measurement you actually take, or a technician's dated notes. The pickup-height article uses the close-up photograph to explain the hardware.

Common Questions
Can I track non-Fender guitars?
Yes. Use Custom / other to enter your instrument's brand and model, strings and notes.
Will I find my records on my phone or another computer?
Yes, when they have been saved to your account. Sign in with the same account on the other device. If you started without signing in, use the Garage's sync prompt to move those local guitar records into your account first.
What happens if I clear my browser data?
Account records remain available when you sign back in. Unsynced local records can be lost when browser data is cleared. Check that you are signed in and that any local records have synced before clearing them.
Does Garage tell me exactly when to change strings or adjust my guitar?
The dashboard shows prompts based on recorded maintenance dates. They are reminders to check your guitar, not a diagnosis or a personalised service schedule. Garage does not send maintenance reminder emails or push notifications.
Do I need to measure everything before I start?
No. Save what you know and add detail later. A factory reference is a starting point, not a measurement of your guitar. Use the setup specs lookup for reference and the Stratocaster setup guide for the work itself.
