Quick answer: The Fender Jazzmaster has a 25.5" (648 mm) scale on every model below, the same as a Stratocaster or Telecaster and longer than the Jaguar's 24" (610 mm). The nut is 1.650" (42 mm) on the Squier, Player II, Vintera III and American Vintage II and 1.685" (42.8 mm) on the American Professional models. The fingerboard radius is 9.5" (241 mm) except on the vintage-style Vintera III and American Vintage II, which have 7.25" (184.1 mm). The Player II and both American Professional models have 22 frets; the Squier, Vintera III and American Vintage II have 21.

Every number here comes from Fender's spec sheet for that model on fender.com, checked on 21 October 2026. The table is built from those sheets, and each model links to the page its numbers came from.

Scale length: the same as a Strat, not a Jaguar

Scale length is the distance from the nut to the saddles, and it sets how tight each string has to be to reach pitch. The Jazzmaster's 25.5" matches the Stratocaster and Telecaster, so strings feel the same tension and the frets sit the same distance apart. That's the biggest playing difference from its offset sibling, the Jaguar, which has a 24" scale: see the Jazzmaster vs Jaguar comparison, and Jazzmaster vs Strat neck for how the necks compare.

Nut width and neck shape

Two nut widths cover the current range: 1.650" (42 mm) on the Squier Classic Vibe, Player II, Vintera III and American Vintage II, and 1.685" (42.8 mm) on the American Professional and American Professional Classic. That's less than a millimetre apart, so the neck shape usually matters more to how the guitar feels. Fender lists Slim "C", Modern "C", Mid '60s "C", 1966 "C" and Deep "C" profiles across the range; the Fender neck profiles guide compares them.

Fingerboard radius and frets

The radius describes how curved the fingerboard is from side to side; a smaller number is rounder. The vintage-style Vintera III Mid '60s and American Vintage II 1966 keep the 7.25" radius; every other model above uses 9.5". Radius matters at setup time, because Fender's string height and relief starting points change with it: the Jazzmaster bridge and string height guide gives them by radius.

The Squier Classic Vibe, Vintera III and American Vintage II have 21 frets; the Player II and both American Professional models have 22. The fret wire differs too, from narrow tall to medium jumbo and vintage tall. Fender's description of fret sizes explains each.

What Fender's spec sheets don't list

Fender's model pages give neck, fingerboard and hardware specs, not body measurements, pickup dimensions or weight. If you need those for a case, a pickguard or a pickup swap, measure your own guitar rather than relying on a figure for a different model or year. For how high the pickups should sit, see Jazzmaster pickup height; for lining the strings up over the saddles, see the bridge guide.

Not sure which Jazzmaster you have?

The serial number gives the year and where the guitar was made, which narrows down the model. Try the Fender serial number lookup, or read the Jazzmaster serial numbers guide for what each prefix means.
